exhibition « Mathieu Dufois »

From 1st february to 29 march 2015

Drawing is central to the work of Mathieu Dufois, who creates both large series’ of drawings on paper and models, as well as films which can be considered as being between animation and experimental film. Indeed, his models constitute the sets for his videos.

In Mathieu Dufois’ work, drawing is not just two-dimensional. He explores a third dimension via volume and movement. By introducing black graphite from pencils into his multimedia writing, the artist attempts to go beyond the limits of graphic language and to acquire new forms and unusual materials.

His work takes much of its inspiration from cinema, and examines the memory of people and places. For him, drawing is based on an approach which is almost archaeological, bringing up to the surface all the emotions and memories of the past.

Here Mathieu Dufois marries the three forms of drawing he uses in his work. With his unseen short film ‘Par les Ondes’, for the first time he is also presenting the models used in the film.
