daniel buren
The artist was born in 1938, in Boulogne-Billancourt.
Daniel Buren is one of the most renowned french artists in France and abroad. His work explores the interdependent relationships between the artwork and its exhibition context, with a richness and diversity that seems almost infinite. Inventor of the “in situ” concept, which refers to an artwork that is imagined and created on the basis of the characteristics of the place where it is exhibited, the artist plays with time, space and architecture constraints: the features of each place is enhanced through colour, light, transparency and reflection, and of course his famous white and coloured striped bands which have formed a consistent “visual tool” since 1965.
From the “Plus grand ou plus petit que ?” exhibition at the Château de Tours press release (2005)
Daniel Buren is represented by the Galerie Kamel Menour.
